Objectives in religious studies

Core Religious Studies is taught across both KS3 and KS4.

Key Stage Three:

At KS3 religious studies covers the content of the Locally Agreed Syllabus, and students are taught to make sense of a range of religious and nonreligious beliefs, understand the impact and significance of religious and nonreligious beliefs, and make connections between religious and non-religious beliefs, concepts, practices and ideas studied. During the key stage, students will learn about Christians, Muslims, Sikhs and Buddhists. This is taught through drop down days, and is planned and delivered by specialist Humanities teachers.

Key Stage Four:

At KS4 religious studies we cover the content on the AQA GCSE Religious Studies short course. This will include learning about Christianity and Islam, as well as covering thematic units of Relationships and Families and Peace and Conflict. This is taught through drop down days, and is planned and delivered by specialist Humanities teachers.

GCSE Option Philosophy an Ethics:

When chosen as a GCSE option students study five lessons per fortnight and cover the AQA GCSE Religious Studies specification A.

During year 10 students cover Component 1: The study of religions: beliefs, teachings and practices. The religions we will cover are Christianity and Buddhism.

During year 11 students cover Component 2: Thematic studies. The themes we will cover are human rights and social justice, religion and life, relationships and families, and religion and crime and punishment.
