Bullying is any behaviour which makes another member of the college feel hurt, threatened, frightened or humiliated. We at Ibstock School will not tolerate such behaviour. Anyone who is aware of bullying should bring it out into the open where it will be confronted and action taken to try to prevent it from continuing. Remember, keeping quiet about bullying helps it to go on. Tell your tutor or pastoral manager straight away.
There is also further information for parents and students in the links below;
Parents' Guide to dealing with bullying
Hate crimes
We at Ibstock School agree that hate crimes are unacceptable. All people regardless of skin colour, belief, culture and customs will be valued equally as individuals. Hate behaviour in the college and prejudiced attitudes will always be challenged. Hate and offensive language is not tolerated.
Holidays in term time
We receive a number of requests from parents and carers asking for permission to take their child out of college for a family holiday during term time. Due to changes in legislation and updated Government guidance we are unable to authorise these absences.
Instrumental lessons (extra-curricular)
There are fantastic opportunities to learn an instrument with our team of peripatetic tutors. All lessons take place during the school day and are worked out on a rota basis to ensure that students do not miss the same curriculum lesson each week. The cost of the lessons varies depending on whether it is an individual lesson, or in a pair.
Medical conditions
We will ensure that all children with medical conditions, in terms of both physical and mental health will be properly supported so that they can play a full and active role in school life, remain healthy and achieve their academic potential. As part of our transition process, we visit primary schools to discuss individual needs of students. Data collection sheets are sent out to all parents / carers annually asking for up-to-date information. Parents are frequently reminded to inform school if their child’s medical needs change.
Our consent form and individual healthcare plan will record whether or not children are competent to take responsibility for managing their own medicines and procedures. Wherever possible, children should be allowed to carry their own medicines and relevant devices or be able to access their medicines for self-medication easily.
Privacy notice (Data Protection Act 1998 - how we use pupil information)
We collect and hold personal information relating to our students and may also receive information about them from their previous school, local authority and/or the Department for Education (DfE). For more information on how we use this information CLICK HERE.
Registration / tutor time
Tutor time is a really important part of the day. Students will have time with their Tutor each day between 08:35 - 09:00.
Reporting student absence
We would like to encourage all parents and carers to use the Arbor app to report any student absences. Please see the help guide on how to do this - Logging Absences on Arbor Parent Portal.
Submitting absence notifications directly through Arbor, helps us streamline communication, ensuring that messages are not missed and reduces the need for follow-up calls or emails. This not only saves you time but also enables us to keep accurate attendance records for your child. Using the app minimises email traffic, allowing us to respond more effectively to any other inquiries you may have. Thank you for helping us improve our communication and keep our records up to date.
If you are unable to use the Arbor app student absence must be reported via the absence email - studentabsence@ibstockschool.co.uk. Please detail the child name, tutor group and reason for absence.
Parents / carers should avoid, if at all possible, making medical / dental appointments for their child during school hours.
